Different types of boats (light displacement vs heavy displacement) and differently rigged boats (sprit boats with asymmetric spinnakers vs boats with spinnaker poles and symmetrical chutes) often sail different wind angles. Even in one designs, proper courses can differ on the same leg of a course. For instance, one skipper might sail toward more pressure, to better current, or smoother water. A PROPER COURSE is far from being a straight line between the marks of the race course.
